The ARIS Games Team

Co-Founder and Director of ARIS, Discovery Fellow: Wisconsin Institute of Discovery (University of Wisconsin, Madison), Field Day Lab Program Director Gagnon’s focus is on the intersection of situated learning theory and mobile media learning with an emphasis on learning through design. He directs a team of educational researchers, software engineers, artists and storytellers experimenting in media design, video games and simulation.

Co-Founder of ARIS, Professor of Digital Media in the Department of Curriculum and Instructions, Co-Director of the Games+Learning+Society Centre in the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery. Squire is the former Research Manager of the Games-to-Teach Project at MIT and Co-Director of the Education Arcade.

Educational Director, Field Day Lab: Wisconsin Institute of Discovery (University of Wisconsin, Madison). Matthews is a teacher, researcher and designer whose work explores the intersection of place-based, design-based, and democratic education. He designs and researches mobile-based games and curriculum aimed at connecting students and teachers with their local communities.

Assistant Professor in the Honors College at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, author and blogger. Holden creates the documentation and tutorial that support ARIS and is the lead contributor to the online discussion group for the platform community. His focus is on place-based design for learning in a variety of learning contexts, including: Spanish and indigenous language acquisition, community action and work with museums.

Lead Developer for ARIS and Field Day Lab at the Wisconsin Institute of Discovery (University of Wisconsin, Madison). Dougherty has a strong interest in field and game design and has participated in the development of the digital tools Siftr and the Nomen Project and research projects: Biocore, Orithology, Folklore and Fibres.
