Recommendations

The Centre for Teaching and Learning Technologies recommends that the C’esna?em partners adopt ARIS Games for their offsite, Musqueam student authored, interactive story mobile platform.

  • meets all of the critical criteria

  • free to users and open source

  • games can be shared publicly

  • can be scalable to large numbers in short time frames

  • can be supported outside of UBC IT

  • history of successful educational partnerships

  • direct access to support

  • team is academically vs commercially motivated

  • costs meet budget for project

  • testing period can be accomplished at no cost

ARIS Advantages

CTLT recommends that ARIS is play-tested by a core group of Musqueam students over a period of months prior to any investment by the partners.

Students and teachers should meet with partner representatives at regular intervals to assess the platform for viability and suggest iterations to the ARIS team that could customize the platform for the C’esna?em project. The partners should be in regular contact with the ARIS team during this period to discuss the progress of the testing and trouble-shoot any issues.

The partners should pursue a formal relationship with the ARIS team if the project shows promise following the play-testing period.

ARIS Challenges
  • FOIPPA compliancy limits personalization of potential stories

  • WiFi dependent: downloadable elements to bridge spotty reception are still in development

  • Android version is still in development
