Simulations

A simulation is a game that attempts to re-create a real-world scenario or setting where students are essentially placed into a situation and given a particular role. Scott Traylor, CEO of digital kids’ content and tech developer of 360KID, explains that students are, “dropped into a situation and the only way to succeed is through trial and error."

Serious Games (Learning Games)

Serious games, also known as learning games, are designed with the specific goal of improving one’s knowledge in a particular area of learning.  Serious games differ from games for entertainment because they focus on learning outcomes that are observable and measureable.

Serious games can rage in complexity and in order for the game to be of value, game designers must collaborate with educators when creating them. Although a serious game is fun and engaging, the main goal is to educate the player as it incorporates educational pedagogy.
