Introduction
This Open Education Resource presents a selection of game-based practices and platforms that continue to emerge and transform. From Sydney Papert’s Logo Turtle in the 1960’s, to trending gamification online tools like Classcraft to a future where improvements in connectivity allow students to generate and share their own games for mobile devices through game jams and makerspaces.
There are three activities connected to this OER on the 522 Wordpress. To earn your Game Master badge, you must complete the requirements of Activities 1 & 2.
The Game Jam Challenge (Activity 3: Optional)
The most time intensive part of this week is 522 Game Jam. We invite you to try your hand at authoring a simple game using ARIS, a browser based editor and mobile locative game app available free from the Apple AppStore. This is not a requirement of the badge but we highly recommend that you attempt to author the beginnings of a game to experience game-design thinking.
Participants should create their prototype by Friday evening so that the games can be shared, playtested, and reviewed over the weekend. For those that endure the journey, you will receive an additional badge - the Game Jammer.
